Is Your Air to Water Heat Pump Climate-Ready™?
Air-to-water heat pumps are increasingly favored in milder climates, where they can effectively meet heating and hot water demands year-round. Their efficiency and environmental benefits make them prime candidates to replace traditional gas boilers in regions like Central Europe.
However, maximizing air-to-water heat pump performance presents significant engineering challenges. To meet growing demands for efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions, the next generation of these systems must overcome obstacles such as optimizing performance across varying conditions, managing variable speed compressors, pumps, and fans, and effectively addressing defrost cycles mitigating freezing. Additionally, the adoption of natural refrigerants like R290 (propane) introduces new design considerations.
Heat Transfer Technologies to Elevate Performance and
Sustainability
Our solutions are designed to tackle these challenges effectively. Our CFD-optimized channel plates enhance overall performance by perfectly adapting heat transfer to the specific conditions of the full operating envelope. Additionally, the refrigerant module in the outdoor unit opens up the possibility for full use of natural refrigerants such as R290 (Propane) with its preferred environmental benefits. Accommodating for this the heat exchanger feature an asymmetric design, where the channels are meticulously developed to balance refrigerant charge, performance, and water/brine pressure drop. This allows for the refrigerant charge, contributing to better efficiency and environmental sustainability. Moreover, our heat exchangers are optimized for variable speed operation which ensures efficient refrigerant distribution and maximum utilization of the heat transfer area across the full operating envelope. Our solutions address the defrost cycle and freezing challenge by using optimized, verified fluid dynamic simulations that secure uniform velocities, minimizing the risk of freezing in the water channels during defrost.
By addressing these critical challenges with our innovative solutions, we provide engineers with the tools they need to achieve superior performance and sustainability in Air to Water heat pump systems.
